I am alive! (Yay!)

I'd been feeling this numbness in hands and feet after I abruptly woke up from sleep sometimes - especially in my hands. Particularly very noticably during flights.

It was a bit tingly and went away after a bit or after i flexed my hands. But it had me worried alright! The discomfort also catapulted since I had a couple of extremely long flights in a short period of time lately.

So the diagnosis began. The first couple of searches I did, I got things like Stroke, paralysis and well, rheumatoid arthritis.

A random conversation with my sister, and she tells me our aunt has begun developing rheumatoid arthritis. I didn't know about it. So I asked her to explain what that meant. As she explained, I felt - whoa! This is it! This is what has happened to me! I don't tell her that though.

I look it up on wiki. I look at the picture of the hand. I look at my hand. Well, my pinky finger has always been a little on a different angle from my other fingers. I take a picture of my hand to compare. My imagination starts running wild. As always.

The plot thickens.

I get reeeaally worried. Nooo! What about my 12 children from the future? What will happen to them if I am going to be terminally ill?

But I then got to this thread:

Eureka! It's the posture! It's the posture!

I am ecstatic!

This makes more sense - and this was the only non-life-threatening; or atleast non chronic thing I could find. Even though, ironically, the site is called "wrong diagnosis". Well, in my case it doesn't seem so wrong. Atleast more right than all the other diagnoses I came up with. Rheumatoid arthritis can wait until I'm 45. Or something. Atleast? Please?  :-/

Lord! Am I turning into a hypochondriac? Or is it just that I am growing old!

Oh well...

reminds me of jerome k jerome three men and the boat(To Say Nothing of the Dog), where the narrator "J" reads medical journal and is fully convinced that he has all the ailments but for the "maid's knee".

All the same, healthy life style with good diet and good exercise eliminates lots of risks.

Take Care

PS - you have a good flair for writing....

@Unsui - Where are you from? A rather interesting name you have there! What does that mean?

Hahah.. Well I haven't read it - but I get it! :D

Happens all the time to me. I always decide I have at least some of the symptoms of all fatal diseases as I read on to find out what is going on with me at that point in time.

Thanks for stopping by. Appreciate your comment. And I checked your blog, why do you not write there anymore?

Thanks a bunch for the compliment! :)

Take care too!

Hahaha... the issue with too much information today is that it results in too much worry n confusion.. a google search on 'chest pain' shoots up some seriously sinister suggestions, most of which imply medical emergency... but if u shift ur info source frm google to grandma, then the latter'll enlighten u that the real reason is cos u shamelessly gorged on ur aunty's spicy (but yummy) culinary delights.

Yay tht u're alive.. n in celebration of bein alive, i recently made a bucket list n it's really wow whn u can strike things out frm it.. (next on: I really wanna see Paris :))

Do drop by to my side of the universe at URL below. I can assure u that besides the title, its rather fairly tame :)

As usual, nice read Nidhi :)

Rock On.

@R-A-J: Is your name an acronym for something? Actually, thinking back to the title of your blog - I'd rather not know! ;)

Well, yes! In fact in my imagination I've contracted every possible fatal disease in the last couple of years - Well atleast thats what I've thought for some time (ranging from a couple of minutes to a couple of days).

Google is a pretty fine example of too much of a good thing. :)

I'll drop by your blog - Your URL does sound shady though yes, I wouldn't deny that! :D

Thanks for dropping by, and thanks for the appreciation!

haha.. nice read.
I wouldn't brand you as a hypochondriac, but you reminded of my med school days when merely learning about illnesses were a reason to attribute each and every cold and fever to a lung cancer or something along those lines.
I wouldn't recommend excess reading online and self diagnosis. The more worrying things are outlined better than the simpler ones. So next time you are a li'l anxious about something, ring up your family doc or someone in your family who is one. :)

Hahah.. Well, I am just grateful to myself I didn't decide to take up medicine! Phew! I don't trust myself with that kind of knowledge. haha..

Yeah I agree I should do that. Although, after I am fed up with all the fatal illnesses I have acquired from the web - thats what I do. Call up someone who actually knows medicine. I guess I should do that first.

But well, the internet is evil.. it's available at any time of the day. So even if I decide to diagnose myself in the middle of the night.. I can google it up! :D

Thanks for dropping by!
Ciao!

@Doublelifer -
Q Where am I from - Well I haven't figured that out myself. But for now it would suffice to tell you, I came here from your linkedin connection, as they say following the breadcrumbs :) Looks like you worked with a HR person (Anju), I worked with before.

Q A rather interesting name you have there! What does that mean? - "Traveling monk" is one of its many meanings, probably that's why I haven't figured out where I am from :)
Q - And I checked your blog, why do you not write there anymore? - I guess that was one of the phases, will write again once I find compelling reason to do so.

You seem to have compelling reasons to write and have a writing flair as well, so keep writing. I will stop by when I can

@R-A-J - Hahah.. Well good Luck with that. Just fyi, I cannot quite stand SRK.
Bacardi? well.. I see the effects were pretty long term. Since you never changed it anyway. :)

Thank you for the kind comments, I do hope to pick up my writing pace yes. I was stuck in a writer's block for a long time, and considering that I am satisfied with the fact that the frequency has gone up a wee bit atleast! :)

I will read your favorite post. :P
Cheers!

@Unsui - Aha! Gotcha. And I find it very fascinating that you're the travelling monk, and that you don't call any place your permanent home. I am wanderlust stricken too. :)
I hope you find compelling reason to write soon. Thank you once again for the kind words, I do love writing. I hope to do more serious writing in the long term.
And I would definitely try to keep up my writing pace.
See you! :)

Reminds me of an episode of House, M.D. in which Greg House comments on a guy who tries to diagnose himself using stuff off the Internet.

And reminds me of how George Costanza's really afraid he's got a major disease :P

-grouchy (not anonymous)

BTW, what places did you eat at during your chicago trip?

@nkur said...

I'd prescribe a daily dose of House M.D. to get over hypochondria...u will think u hav so many diseases that u'd get over it :P

P.S. : If possible, please change the white on black theme..the contrast is uncomfortable for reading...u might get more hits :)

ud have to be really in the minority percentage ( and i mean 0.01 % ) to get RA at a young age...but ya, we docs get this kinda fear all the time... reading too many "familiar" symptoms.

Anyway, hope its better now.
